The New Guy

I'll always (well, almost always) admit when I've made a mistake and today I'm getting concerned that I've made one. It's the new guy.

He's only been in the team for a few months and yet he's already managed to piss off everybody. I knew when I hired him that I'd have to deal with the cocky salesman attitute to some extent, but the arrogance of the guy seems to get worse by the day.

My dilemma:
- he's very good at relationship management. They like him and he seems to be getting things done
- he asks for help and then either talks over you, tells you what he thinks you should say or just plain disagrees
- he's not very bright
- he thinks he's very bright
- he thinks he should be promoted
- I don't
- he wants more money
- I don't think he's worth it

My dilemma is that he's managing my biggest relationship and they have had so many new relationship managers over the past two years, it's just not funny.

They need consistency

I just want to gag him

So, I guess this is where my "excellent" management skills should come into play. If I'm good enough I should be able to coach him in the right direction and put him back in his box help him reach his full potential.

Tomorrow the challenge begins.
