It's been fascinating really. The old adage goes that you never discuss Money, Politics or Religion with your friends. But Facebook seems to allow you to break those rules. You don't have to say things directly, you just "like" comments, or post observations or join groups.
So what have I learnt about my friends this week?
1) I'm really surprised with the amount of friends I have who are Lib Dem and Labour. I don't have a problem with it at all, everyone's entitled to their opinion. I really want to sit with them and ask WHY though, not to challenge their every word, but just to listen. Hey, I might learn something.
2) People are afraid to admit they are Tories
3) Labour supporters are aggressive and hate the Tories, but the Tories don't hate Labour
4) You can easily guess who your Labour Friends are. The Liberals aren't so easy to spot.
So, in an attempt to provide a little window onto my circle of friends, here are some of the classics from the last week. These people are a mix of 25 to thirty something men and women, Doctors, Lawyers, Teachers, Bankers, Stay at Home Mothers, one political activist and one unemployed Scot! (I'll leave you to guess which is which!)
"isn't quite sure whether to believe that Labour have FINALLY gone. It's like watching some terrible horror film where the vampire keeps getting up again, no matter how many times it's seemingly killed off..."
"didn't realise how many tory acquaintances he had. I thought i had a better judge of character than that."
"has found the news more gripping in the last week than Eastenders AND Hollyoaks!"
"Is gutted I voted lib dem and got a Tory government- never again. Don't think much of this new con-dem party!"
"is loving exciting political days and late nights with News24. Could we be witnessing the most exciting and refreshing political development for decades after years of abuse of parliament by Labour? Hooray! "
"is pleased that Cameron is finally Prime Minister. But with the Lib Dems shamelessly whoring themselves back and forth for a grubby deal on electoral reform, with the country on the brink of economic collapse, you maybe have to question their priorities. "
"is tired of explaining 'the politics in the UK' to curious Americans.. isn't it bad enough to read about it, without having to talk about it? And I certainly don't want to come back and live in it!! *Grump*"
"had a nightmare that a useless, posh Tory boy got into No. 10. Oh, wait.... "So, that's my social network. It's been enlightening to say the least.
