Marrakech Sunshine

So, where have I been? The clue's in the title!

I have just spent the most amazing time ever with dear Hubby in Marrakech. We met my parents on the M4 at lunchtime on Thursday and did a child-trafficing style swap and gave over our son to them for the weekend. We then escaped to Heathrow. The excitement began with beautiful Oysters and Champagne and continued through until Sunday evening when we arrived back to a 5 degrees centigrade, rainy London.

Marrakech is stunning and unique and weird and inspiring and rich and poor and lavish and plain all at the same time. The sights and smells inspire the senses and boggle the mind.

We spent time wondering the narrow souks, bartering for lamps and bright red shoes for our son. We experienced amazing food and intimate moments that we haven't had for years. we slept in until 10am on Saturday and didn't care. We shared a Hammam bath, learned to cook a monkfish tagine and stayed up until 2am sharing a shisha. I felt like we were in the first few years of our relationship again and it was wonderful.

We stayed at a fantastic riad called Dar Les Cignognes, which is located in the heart of the old town of Marrakech, the medina. I cannot recommend it enough. It's run by a great guy called Christopher and the staff will do anything for you - even find you ANOTHER bottle of wine at 2am when they can't offer Baileys!!

I missed our son terribly though, much more than I expected, so actually when Sunday morning came, I was excited about seeing him and that took away the dissapointment that it was all over.
