As a working mother I do often feel that I have a point to prove on the Domestic Goddess front...
What with Kirstie's Homemade Christmas and Nigella's "scrumptious" this and that, it doesn't half set the bar high!
For mothers that stay at home, it's taken for granted that you're Mother Earth, with the ability to conjure up a Victoria Sponge at the click of your fingers. For working mothers though, it's taken for granted that you don't have a maternal bone in your body, you employ cleaners to look after your home and order the catering in when you need it because you "simply don't have the time daaaarling".
Well, not this working mother. Ok, I concede on the cleaner front, but I am a bloody good cook, I had a natural birth and took a year off for my maternity leave.
My point? Well, today I jarred and labelled presents for my friends and family. Yes people, I made Chutney! Not just any chutney mind, this was chutney made in August with my own home grown green tomatoes and apples from parents' house.
I am proud:
I'm not trying to gloat (much). I genuinely did it because I enjoyed it and I love chutney! On a serious note, I'm also sick of all the commercialism linked to Christmas and I'm sure my friends and family would like to think I've actually spent some time thinking about them and making their presents. Of course I'm buying things as well, I just wanted to do a bit more.
Hubby decided to take me on in my culinary mission and therefore spent the morning making chilli jelly too. I have to admit, it's damn good.
