That's what friends are for

My best friend and "new neighbour" has been round today because the builders in her house are causing chaos. She's really getting down about the whole thing and even though I say on a daily basis that she can use our house whenever she likes, she's got such pride that she just won't accept it.

She keeps referring to herself as a burden and a bad small, which is really sad. After all, isn't that what friends are for? In the good old days we would have all lived close to our parents and we would have a much stronger support network to fall back on in tough times. As I've said before, there's something about my friends, which means we all constantly have the stiff upper lip that everything's just fine. So, when hard times come, I really do think that people struggle to ask for help.

I know I"m the same myself, but if I've learned one big lesson recently, it's the hard times that bring you closer to your friends. That's when you really work out what makes each other tick. Sadly, a few of us seem to be going through difficult times at the moment, but I hope that the bonds we have made now will mean that in the better times we can all fly high together.
