On the Blog - Sex Toys!

I've recently decided to do a regular "on the blog" review. It will be my take on a blog that's caught my eye in the week and what better place to start than Notes from a Brit in Lapland

On a dull journey home from work, Heather's recent blog on Supermarket Sex Toys made me laugh out loud.

"There you are queueing up at the till, trolley laden with food, a Rampant Rabbit stuffed down in the middle so no-one can see it, trying nonchalantly to unload your shopping onto the conveyer belt, looking for all the world as though as though a vibrator is the most reasonable thing to be pulling out of your trolley and laying down next to the cheese and apples"

I love this woman: along with some of her brilliant other blogs on Vagina Secrets and Anal Sex, she really makes me glad that the old British stiff upper lip provides no boundaries to the blogging community. Heather is honest, funny and unique and I encourage you to follow her to put a smile on your face on a daily basis.

As Mummy 365, I'm anonymous, so I'm happy to blog about any subject that comes to mind, I recently blogged about a sexual day dream, which was met by a mild response from my followers.  I'm happy to admit to owning a Rampant Rabbit and partaking in anal sex on an occasional basis, but we all need a little encouragement to open up, as it isn't something we're used to.

The thought of discussing sex toys seriously with my girlfriends is just unthinkable.  I don't think it's me that's got a problem: after a glass of wine I'm happy to go into FAR too much detail, but it's usually received with a polite smile and a change of subject and as for anal sex...

So how would anyone actually broach such a subject...

"So, "Lucy", I've been wanting to talk to someone about this for ages, but I recently bought a vibrator and I really enjoy using it on a Sunday morning when my hubby is downstairs and sometimes when things are getting passionate in the bedroom and both hubby and I are feeling a bit horny, I don't mind if he entertains the alternative entrance......is that something you do at all?"

I think my friends would fall off their chairs!

Why is that?

Is it because we believe that what we do in the bedroom with our partner should be kept in the bedroom?  Whatever!  As women we are happy to discuss the most intimate parts of our bodies, how often we have sex and how supportive our partners are, but what we don't seem to be able to do is discuss what we think what might be considered taboo.

Is is because we think it's wrong?  Who say it's wrong?  It is because it wasn't discussed in our biology lessons and no one every told us that it's normal for a woman to enjoy an orgasm on her own!  Is is because we were born in the 70's and when we were growing up anal sex was associated with AIDS and therefore must be wrong?

I don't know, but what I do know is that I wish we could talk more openly about sex and it's associated activities.

So, thank you Heather, for showing us bloggers how open and honest we can be and for allowing me to vent about something I feel passionate about.

Spread the word!

What a fabulous post! you are so right, it is ridiculous that we feel this way, so ashamed of vibrators and anal sex. What is that all about?

and thank you for your lovely words - they mean a lot!

Hahaha! But I think the British public are naughtier than you think. Here's the story about what I heard in an Ann Summers story in Bath. I was shocked I tell you. Shocked! We don't have sex stores on the high street in NZ http://vegemitevix.com/2010/02/24/dirty-stories-and-a-bath/ It's a true story, and it's a shocker!

Brilliant. I couldn't possibly comment on those lovely rampant rabbits, but that is just amazing!
