So, it's St Valentine's Day... "just a commercial waste of time" as one of my friends puts it.
I think it's just a good excuse to remember to tell your other half how much you love them. I was a lucky lady and got throughly spoilt with a dozen roses, new Jack Wills Underwear and some Benefit make up! I didn't do too badly either, getting him Molton Brown re-charge black pepper body wash.
I'm very lucky, but it's not about the presents and it inspired me to think about some of our most romantic moments:
1) When he arrived under my window in halls at university with a bottle of wine and some chocolates to cheer me up after some sad family news. We'd split up about 6 months before for complicated reasons, but I had bumped into him at the library that morning for the first time in months and after that the rest, as they say, is history!
2) When we stayed up all night on 31st December 1999 just so we could go and watch the sunrise together at the dawn of a new millennium.
3) While we were at university we went to the island of Symi in Greece. It was very little known then and a very intimate get away for our first holiday away together. As students, we were pretty short of money, so we saved up all week so that we could have a special dinner at the end of the holiday. We sat by the sea and ate some of the most memorable and taste bud tingling meze I have ever experienced.
4) When he woke me up at 3am, got me to pack my bags for a trip away and took me in a taxi to Heathrow, from where we flew to Rome. We arrived and he took me to a wonderful hotel, Hotel Boscolo and he proposed to me almost immediately on the balcony. I was in a old skirt and had bare feet, but that just made it even more special.
5) On our wedding day when we walked together across the field to look back at "our" wedding. Just seeing all our friends and family celebrating us being in love was pretty humbling.
6) The night of our wedding, when he whisked me off to Oulton Hall and at 1am, me still in my wedding dress, we sat in our suite and ate roast beef and horseradish sandwiches with a good pot of tea from room service.
7) Our honeymoon in Cocobay Resort Antigua, of course, when we spent time relaxing, eating, drinking and lovin'. I vividly remember looking out over the bay at him sailing a dinghy, thinking just how lucky I was.
8) Going to Carluccio's in Kingston after having the scan for our son. It hadn't all been smooth running, as the nuchal translucency measurement was larger than it should be, but once we had left the hospital we just couldn't stop looking at the images, smiling, crying and laughing.
9) Having our son. I have never felt so much love for two people in my life as when I lay on that hospital bed, exhausted and in pain looking at hubby dress our son for the first time.
10) Our first proper night out together after our son was born. I'm a real foodie, so the treat was a tasting menu at Whatley Manor in Gloucestershire. We were in heaven!
