They never let you down

Back in the dark ages in 1998 I went travelling with another girl around Central America for three months. It was an amazing experience and I truly believe it was a strong factor in shaping who I am today.

I very rearely see travel buddy; it's one of those Wedding and Christmas Card relationships, which is a real shame. A few weeks ago I got an email from her saying she was going to be in London this weekend, so was arranged to meet for brunch. Travel buddy doesn't have children...

As is always the case when you meet people you haven't seen for a while, you want to look your best and prove that being a Mummy hasn't changed who you are.

All was going well, we'd arrive on time, got a table, ignored our son's refusal to sit in a highchair and plonked him on a "big boy seat". We'd ordered Eggs Benedict and were catching up. Our son was behaving and only very occasionally shouted to the waiter "where my lunch?"

A model family.

That was, until brunch arrived. Our son had bacon and scrambled egg. Before I had even taken a mouthful, he had enhaled a rasher of streaky bacon, choked and with lightning reactions I found myself cuping my hands under his chin to capture a handful if vomit! You can always rely on them to do you proud!
