People reading this will probably wonder why on earth I wouldn't want my own mother to be the first person to know about my pregnancy.
If I say "Dot Cotton" would that help? I wouldn't be surprised if my mother's favourite phrases weren't "I'm not one for idle tittle tattle" or "I'm not supposed to say anything, but..."
It's not that I don't want her to know, I absolutely do. But I also know from experience that once SHE knows, EVERYONE knows. At only 5 weeks, I'm simply not ready for the world to know I'm pregnant yet. The other fear is that she's on Facebook and being almost computer illiterate, she wouldn't know the difference between a private and public message. I've told some close friends, who I know won't say a word to anyone, because my biggest fear is that someone at work finds out.
I don't know why I'm so scared of it, but I'm pretty sure that once they know I'll be written off until I'm back from maternity leave, which as current estimates is January 2012. That's a long time to be written off for, particularly at a time when the business I work for might be being taken over... That's a whole other blog and I could really wind myself up about it, but I just have to keep reminding myself that my family is more important than anything that might happen work-wise.

I told my boss I was pregnant as she did my yearly review and was about to offer me a new temporary position I would have loved! And then the company anounced while I was on maternity leave that they were closing down my building. I panicked for about 5 minutes but once I did the maths I thought that it wasn't so bad as I could spend time at home with both girls! Remember they can't make you redundant for that reason alone and if you have the slightest incline that it is the reason you can fight it! X
