I'm delighted to report that the Moroccan dinner party was a real success!
I didn't go OTT with the decoration, but the food was wonderful. For those foodies among you, I thought I'd share the menu and recipes (plus a few changes I'd make next time.)
Starter
A selection of Mezze including grilled aubergine, humous, chorizo, stuffed bell pepper and homemade Chickpea Moroccan Flatbread (Jamie Oliver 'The Return of the Naked Chef). Hubby loves making bread, so I left this one to him. He did say that 4 mins wan't enough cooking time though and if you want them as thin as the photo in the book, roll then thinner than the 0.5cm that Jamie suggests.
Main
I went for quite a feast here.
Chicken with Preserved Lemons and Olives, care of my cooking lesson in Dar Les Cigognes, Marrakesh in December 2009)
Beef Tagine (Jamie does...) A Jamie classic.. great taste, but not quite the precise details of the likes of Delia. This one required at least another 30 mins with the lid off to get is to the right consistency.
Couscous with dried fruit
Wilted Greens
Carrot and Orange Salad
Pudding
M'Hanncha with Date Sauce (Jamie does...) Jamie does it again. A taste explosion, but I really disagree with the proportions of the filling relative to the filo pastry. My advice would be to half the filling and you'd have a much more delicate pudding and one which resembles something like the picture in the book...
Most of all, it was great fun and the weather was so warm, we all stayed outside until midnight.
Happy Days!
